Frequently Asked Questions For New Points Program

1.    If one dollar equals one point, what happens with amounts under one dollar?
Amounts under 49 cents are rounded down to zero, and 50 cents or over is rounded up to the dollar.

2.    What items are not eligible to earn points?  Are points earned before or after discounts, coupons or taxes?
Customers will not earn points on sales tax. All discounts (senior and liquor) and coupons (manufacturer and store) or other promotional offers will be applied to the purchase prior to points being earned. Points are accumulated after the discounts are applied. The system automatically determines the eligible items.  The total is listed on the bottom of the register receipt.

 
Non-income items will not be eligible such as:

•    Postage stamps
•    All gift cards
•    Ticketmaster
•    Event tickets sold through the register
•    BART & transportation tickets
•    Money Orders & MoneyGram
•    Lotto
•    Charity icon sales, i.e. Shamrocks
•    Fuel
•    Check Cashing fee
•    Senior & Liquor discounts
•    Sales Tax



Also, markdowns and refunds reduce the points total.

3.    What will happen if I need to suspend a customer order after I have swiped the S.H.A.R.E.S. points card?  
Suspending the transaction does not affect point accumulation. There will be no need to re-swipe the card.  Once you resume the order, proceed as usual. Examine the receipt with the customer and show them the points have been posted properly.

4.    What do I need to do if I have already begun ringing up the customer’s order and I find out they have a S.H.A.R.E.S. card?

A customer’s order can be processed and the points will be accrued as long as the card is swiped on the MSR before the payment is tendered. Once you know the customer has their card, complete the S.H.A.R.E.S. Points Card function on the Dyna keys.

5.    What happens if a customer doesn’t present their card until after tendering the form of payment or if the customer didn’t bring it when they were shopping?
The system can only record the points earned if the S.H.A.R.E.S. card is swiped before the payment is tendered. Please encourage all shoppers to bring and scan their card.

6.    Can a cardholder earn points for more than one organization?
A customer may have more than one card, each for a different organization. Only one card can be swiped per transaction. Each card will maintain an individual point balance per organization.
